Page 1: Great Expectations


To celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’ birth, we’ve reworked the ?rst page of Great Expectations for a project by GraphicDesign&. This has been reproduced alongside 70 other responses in a book published this month. We used the symbolism of a ?owing river as a metaphor for Pip’s journey from and back to Kent by setting the text in Boustrophedon, a form of bidirectional text seen in ancient manuscripts and inscriptions.
